Every morning when you wake up, greet the day as if you are going to spend time with a friend. From dawn until night-time, the day is going to be there sharing all that you are going to experience. Imagine that you are really looking forward to seeing this friend and can’t wait to spend time together. The day is equally looking forward to spending time with you. You are both entwined in living life together in this brief moment of sunlight. Practicing this can help you to start noticing the subtleties of the relationship you have with life.
Doing this daily will start to create an intimacy with the day in a way that brings more presence and awareness to your mind and heart. After all, our lives are made up of thousands of these days – a sequence of moments and experiences that continue to evolve us as human beings.
Before going to sleep at night you can always review how your day went. Some people write in their journals or diaries or directly replay the day’s events in their mind. Acknowledge the day and bid it farewell with love and gratitude as if you were saying goodbye to a good friend of yours. Some things may not have gone the way you expected or the same thoughts and problems may have come up again. That’s okay. Try and pay attention to all the things that went right. There may be more of those moments than the ones that weren’t as great.
This day is never going to come back again, however you always know you can look forward to meeting your new friend when it appears the following morning.
