A rewarding exercise (that may be uncomfortable at first for some people) is to look in a mirror and just be with yourself. Be present and really give attention to the person that is looking back at you. In addition, you can also record yourself via video and/or audio.
The aim of this exercise is to get to know yourself in a much more intimate way. It’s very easy to judge the opinions and action of other people but it is not very easy to see ourselves or hear what we sound like from another person’s point of view. The physical actions of another person is always driven by internal motives which we cannot see and most of the time nor can the person as these drivers are mostly subconscious.
Seeing and hearing yourself aims to give you a constructive perspective on observing yourself. This may be intimidating or uncomfortable to do. If it is, then ask yourself honestly why you feel like this? Why is it hard to look and hear ourselves in a much more intimate way than we normally do? The more we can be comfortable with ourselves and give love and attention, the more we can understand ourselves even better.
Be kind and understanding to yourself.
