The Journal NeuroImage reports that regular meditation sessions, a combination of intense concentration (focus) and relaxation may well trigger the growth of new cells. A comparison of men and women who regularly meditated and those who did not revealed through brain scans that those of an average 50 year old meditator had a more youthful brain of a 42-43 year old. Researcher Christian Gaser, neuroscientist at Jena University Hospital in Germany, stated that the findings seem to suggest that meditation is beneficial for brain preservation, with a slower rate of brain ageing throughout life, He also added that those who meditate tend to lead healthier lifestyles in general. Why not join them?

“People have no time to relax and unwind. They are “tethered to their office by their smartphones” they put in 90 hour weeks and are too busy to go on holiday. Many are suffering from back pain and shoulder pain, tinnitus, and most of all stress. No one is sleeping properly” says Robert Colville in his recent study, “yet research is indicating that sleep deprivation can be a cause of Alzheimers, We’re trying to squeeze more and more into an already overcrowded day and the first thing to go is the sleep”.
Blame can be placed on the ubiquity of computers, but what good has this done us? The addiction rates to time on the computer is are soaring, and the supposed time-saving gain which has been sold to us has actually resulted in us wasting more of it through forgotten passwords, making applications online and never hearing back, computer answered phone calls which keep you holding on for hours and supermarket computerised check-outs which take longer and are more frustrating than the conventional method.
On average, people check their emails 40 times an hour and teenagers send 34 texts at night after bedtime. How do we remain calm when we are assaulted by everyone and every thing demanding of our time? How do we get to smell the roses?
Well, if we are going to have to endure the onslaught of computerisation, how do we make it work for us? This was our thinking when we created The Mind Manifesto. How can we use the very technology (audio, mobile phones and laptops) to help COUNTERACT the effects of a digital enforced lifestyle? By simply downloading our calming meditations, you can make better use of your time – and vastly improve your health and wellbeing – listening to one of our SleepEasy suite interventions before your head hits the pillow than you ever will sending a dozen texts. Please let us know your experiences and what else we can create to help you wake refreshed and ready for the new day!
The UK’s Royal Society for Public Health has today (the 1st April 2016) announced their findings that, on average among the population, almost an hour of sleep is lost every night, which could have far-reaching consequences for health. The organisation represents 6,000 public health specialists, who have stated that poor sleep is implicated in a range of conditions, from cancer to depression and high blood pressure. Lack of sleep, it seems, is also responsible for creating difficulties in adopting a healthier lifestyle, such as giving up smoking. Sleep plays a crucial role in helping our bodies recover and restore themselves after daily exertions.Shirley Cramer, Chief Executive of the RSPH, goes as far as to say that efforts need to be taken to ensure sleep has parity alongside other areas of health. It is perhaps wise to develop a national strategy which sets out guidance for the public which highlights what more schools, employers and healthcare professionals can do to help the nation sleep better at night.
Well, here at the Mind Manifesto we have a SleepEasy toolbox of meditations to achieve just that. A simple strategy of regular listening to the meditations included in the set will help instill in your subconscious a pattern of natural relaxation and rest as and when needed. As usual with declaring a Manifesto for yourself: intend it and take action. We are sure the RSPH would approve.
